Ruscany Beach Vacations

Many people say that if you are considering your first Tuscany beach vacations, you should look no further than the resort of Viareggio.

Situated on the Versillian Riviera, an area famous for the sandy beaches, the near vicinity of the mountains makes for a freshness in the air that is hard to find elsewhere.The whole area is covered with ancient rocks and exotic villages to explore.


Viareggio has a glorious harbor, which is typically European, and it's this Italian flavour of Europe which lingers long in the memory of visitors.

It isn't hard to get to, with good road access form any major European point and Pisa airport is not too far away. It's ideal in fact for a beach 'mini break' for those doing a European tour - a chance to recharge the batteries with some sea air, and relaxing on the sand.

The local quisine is naturally sea oriented, but of course you will be able to indulge in Italian staples like pizza and pasta! Naturally you will want to wash it down with a local fine wine.

There is a bustling night life, with the local 'Versillian' discos.

If you want to go sailing, the lake at nearby Torre del Lago offers sailing lessons. You can also visit the house of composer Puccini and a museum about him. In fact in July and August the Puccini Festival takes place every year.

In Pietrasanta you can visit the cave where Michelangelo got the marble he used for his 'Statue of David'.

The views are spectacular with the sea in one direction and the pinewoods to go with the Apaun Alps behind. In fact there is a superb jetty which goes out into the sea for nearly a kilometer. Once you get to the end you are rewarded when you turn around with an amazing view. For those that like hiking and camping, the pinewoods certainly have a big popular following.

Formed in the 12 century, Viareggio as you choice for Tuscany beach vacations will fill you with a rich culture, but do not let that confuse you with fun - all the beach activities you would expect are available, plus the usual shopping and entertainment facilities.

To be honest, if you have small children, there may be more suited choices elsewhere for beach holidays, as the Tuscan area should really be appreciated for its' history.

So to sum up, Tuscany beach vacations are a superb way to freshen up and sample quality European culture at the same time, and Viareggio is as good a place as any to make your base.
