Georgia Beach Vacations
When considering your holiday, Georgia beach vacations offer a nice alternative to plain old sand and sea. It must be said, there is nothing wrong with 'plain' old sand and sea, that kind of holiday has worked for generations and will do so further, but Georgia offers the chance to flavour the culture and history of the area.
Staying in the beach area offers you the best of both worlds - you can enjoy a walk along the beach at morning and night, relaxing in the sunrise and sunset over the horizon, and then spend the day taking short drives to the many attractions on view, coming back to sample authentic Southern cooking for your evening meal.
How about using some of your Georgia beach vacations time to go camping at Hard Labor Creek? With 50 picnic sites, plenty of RV spaces, it offers boating fishing and equestrian activities. Spring or Fall are probably the best times for overnighting, as the summer gets unsurprisingly booked up.
Maybe you'd like the Fort Poluski National Monument, which is a National Parks property. Civil war re-enactments and daily cannon firings go down a storm with young boys, or you could wonder at the engineering feat of the Cockspur Island Lighthouse.
Not everyone likes museums, but if you do then the Fernbank Natural Sciences museum is the largest in the South East, and easily offers a full day of activity, including a spectacular full dinosaur skeleton.
The word 'amicalola' in Cherokeee tongue means 'falling water', and that's just what you get at Amicalola Falls Park. The waterfall is 729 feet, the largest east of the Mississippi, and it's obvious why it draws the crowds.
It may seem strange to find it there, but at the same park is Dawsonville's Kangaroo Conservation Center, which is the largest anywhere outside Australia!
As well as going inland, you have the option of going offshore, as there are plenty of island holiday spots off the coast, each with their own beach attractions.
Tybee Island for example has a wonderful pier to stroll along, and offers kayaking on private tidal waterways. As throughout the whole Georgia coast, there are both hotels and vacation rentals on offer, to cater for all tastes and budgets.
So you can see the Georgia beach vacations offer the chance to sample southern US history while cramming in as much modern leisure activity as you can manage.
